Introduction
Professor John Neoptolemos is The Owen and Ellen Evans Chair of Surgery at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. As Director, the Liverpool Cancer Research UK Centre, received the Freedom of the City of Liverpool in 2011. As the Scientific Director he established the NIHR Pancreas Biomedical Research Unit in 2007 and is now Director of the Liverpool Clinical Trials and Cancer Research UK Cancer Trials Units. He has been Secretary of the EPC and President of the Pancreatic Society GB and Ireland and the International Association of Pancreatology.
He was elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2007 and NIHR Senior Investigator in 2011. He was awarded the Hirschberg Award for Pancreatic Cancer, American Pancreatic Association in 2005. He has honorary membership of the Society of Surgery in Hungary, the Germany Society of Surgery and is also an Honorary Professor of Nanjing Medical University. In 2013 he received a Life Time Achievement Award from the European Pancreatic Club. He is on the Medical Advisory Board for Pancreas Cancer UK and is presently the President of the European Pancreatic Club and Clinical Lead for the development of Clinical Guidelines for Pancreatic Cancer of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (UK).
