Collaborative Partners
The collaboration of the LCTU with the following departments and organisations contributes to the strength and success of the Unit:
- Centre for Medical Statistics and Health Evaluation (CMSHE), University of Liverpool.
The Centre supports 18 phase III randomized trials, with funding from NHSHTA, MRC, Wellcome
Trust and EDCTP as well as researching trials methodology.
- Computing Services Department, University of Liverpool. This is a large and well established
resource that provides appropriate continuous support for both hardware (SUN computers) and
software (Oracle). The in house computer network is linked to the main University thereby
facilitating this support (see below).

The Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Research Network (NCRI) is one of the top recruiters to
NCRI cancer studies in the UK. The immediate Region covers a population of 2.14 million but
an additional 1.5 million are drawn in for specialist cancer care from North Wales, South
Lancashire and further a field. The Region has the highest cancer incidence and cancer death
rate in England. The Network is one of the most successful in the NCRN and serves as a model
operation.
